Artist Statement
The work expresses the play of painting in the landscape of time and the materiality of the paint layer, which implies the process of painting. The trees and landscapes of the palace imply historical temporality and have been preserved even though their forms have changed over a long period of time. As if to prove that time, they have various shapes and are grotesque because the forms maintained as conservatives coexist. The subtle changes in the shape of the bark of an old tree or branches that spread out in a mess imply the image of time, and the colors of the trees are quite deep and many colors are elaborately stacked. You can feel the implied journey of time in the space and time created by the images and landscapes of trees. Through the trees and landscapes of the ancient palace with a sense of time, it metaphors the time of the painting process and expresses philosophical considerations on the basic act of painting.
In order to infer the colors in the process of drawing an image and to reveal the colors in the process, I create a layer of acrylic paint by overlapping the colors for a long time (about 200-250 times). The surface of the solid paint layer is engraved with a grinder and a sculptor to reveal colors. Based on the reproduction of an image through painting, the work reproduces by sculpting the paint layer, and sometimes draws an image as if a painting blooms from the physical properties of the paint layer. By expressing materiality and painting in various ways, creates various pictorial strata.
The works are a homage to painting and are expressed as crystals of time.
